Rupsband

Rupsband started as a project-band in March 2005, after Rups wrote many songs and lyrics for quite some time. As musical tribute to 80's bands, members of SAF and the Shining were found to form the Rupsband:

In April Rupsband started practicing. Early May we recorded a BGK-cover (Isolatiefolter) for a BGK-Tribute LP. 9th of June we had our first show in de Kortsluiting in Utrecht, which was a big success. Circle-pits, pogo's, bardiving, crowdsurfing and the likes in a crapped squat-pub.. Right away Rupsband was asked to support Direct Control and Fucked Up on their shows in Holland, but due to holidays we had to say no. We played a 4 songs bonus set on the Crustfest in Weert and went together for a 3 days weekend Thrash tour with The Shining and SAF, playing Leeuwarden, Nijmegen and Hoorn. Sunday 16 oktober we played in Parkhof with Brasilian fastcore friends Discarga and I Shot Cyrus, and the American Scurvy Dogs. December 2005 we played the Trashfest in Hoogeveen, with cool bands like Sin Dios and Narcosis. 2006 gave us shows in the OCCII and the Volta in Amsterdam, the Short. Fast and Loud fest in Heemstede and a DIY Open Air show in a Skate Park in Zwolle. June 2006 we recorded all our songs + one Attitude Adjustment cover. The first full 7", 8-Track-Thrash-Attack, is released on 30 August 2006, accomplied with two shows with Sick Terror in the ACU and in a squat in The Hague. Another 5 songs were released in june 2007 as split 7" with our Brazilian friends of Entre Rejas. Also we are featured on the Esperanza Grassroots-benefit CD.

Awesome international split here between ENTRE REJAS from brazil and Rupsband from the Netherlands. ENTRE REJAS plays some old school thrash with moments of blazing grind. At times they remind of GRIDE. RUPSBAND is more classic sounding. They cover HERESY and ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT which gives you a pretty good idea of the teritory this comes from! This record is dedicated to the grassroots project-an anti borders organization. Cool!

Entre Rejas hail from Brazil and seem to have a love of thrash via the many bands that have appeared on Lengua Armada Records like Charles Bronson and Los Crudos. Full speed ahead and Portuguese vocals yelled with convinction. A Born Against cover is thrown in for good measures. This band would have made a huge buzz quickly during the late 90's. Rupsband on the flipside call the Netherlands home. Not as full speed ahead and manic as Entre Rejas. Rupsband make up for this with more musical vatiety and tempo changes before going on a thrash attack. A good introduction from both bands whom I never had heard of before (Donofthedead, Profane Existence#55)

Rupsband - "8 track thrash attack" ep

Speedy '80s sounding thrash hardcore. I do say hardcore because while this
is not far from the '80s crossover sound, it's not as metal. Well, i say
that and the first two tracks on the second side have guitar solos and are a
bit more metal. From the netherlands, have a sense of humor and don't just
sound like a rehash of old ideas. After listening to this 7inch a few more
times I realized what i loved about crossover back in the 80's. Sometimes
it's metal and sometimes hardcore. Think Attitude Adjustment or the Cryptic

This 7" is a support/benefit record for the Grassroots Projects. Grassroots Projects has the purpose to spread solidarity with out borders and focus mostly on Latin America.

The first band on this split 7" is Entre Rejas from Brazil. They deliver six songs sung in Portuguese and a cover from Born Against. In the good looking sleeve you can find both the original Portuguese lyrics and the translation in English if your Portuguese is a bit rusty. The music is decent fast thrashcore with a decent production. Somehow the band Go! came to my mind while listening to this.

The other band is Rupsband from The Netherlands. This band contains members of SAF and The Shining. The lyrics are in English and in Dutch and deal with hatred against Catholic religion, Political Correctness and the love for Heresy. Besides these songs of their own they also recorded a cover song originally done by Attitude Adjustment. Some of you might know Attitude Adjustment from their songs on the End The Warzone compilation 7". The production is very good and gives their songs some extra power.

I prefer the Rupsband side thanks to the better production and being musically slightly more interesting. This was for me a nice introduction to these bands and I guess if you have a profound love for thrashcore you might want to check out this record.

Another chapter in the brazil/holland thrash punk friendship thats been brought to us via the dutch ups record label along with labels too many to metion in this short review. ENTRE REJAS are the brazilian band this time they play hardcore PUNK a bit like LOS CRUDOS/DS13 did with a bit of crust. They manage to thrash through 7 tracks all noticeably different for each other. Good stuff. I will be looking for more of there output. RUPSBAND from holland which is a project from richard ups the punk behind the rups label. They play an 80's crossover punk like the ACCUSED/D.R.I. I think this has a better sound than there last record and is pretty good. Im not sure if we will hear more from this band as i understand it was just a project for a short period of time. Also this band are great live. Contains members of SAF[r.i.p]/THE SHINING and WAKING THE DEAD. (jobby)
